To My Beautiful Kyra

Rest comfortably at the rainbow bridge my friend, for someday I will join you. What a glorious day it will be when we meet again. You are my heart and my soul. You will live forever in my memories.
While you were with me, you inspired me, you made me laugh, you gave me joy, pride, comfort, devotion, true companionship, and all of your love, and I gave you mine.
You were my best friend and my lifeline.
Even though your body has left me, our hearts will always be together forever. Rest in peace Kyra. I love you.
We lost our Kyra on January 25th, 2003 to an accident in the back yard. She was out playing with Justice for one last romp and to get buisness done before bed. They had been out about 1/2 hour and I went to call them in and Kyra didn't come.
I knew something was wrong immediatley since she was always the first at the door. I ran outside and found my beautiful girl dead in the snow. It was the most emotional experience of my life.
I just could not believe this vibrant, healthy, beautiful best friend of mine was gone just like that.

We had a necropsy done on Kyra to find out what happened to her. We were shocked to learn that Kyra had a broken neck at C4 and C5.
I had always worried about one of our danes getting hurt at play, but never imagined that I would lose one to the "zoomies".
I was not there to see what happened, but Justice was limping in the rear and I can only guess that she may have ran into him and flipped or something.
In Kyra's honor I am posting this story in hopes that people who own multiple danes or really any breed, will take an extra measure to ensure their safety at play. This unexpected death of my best friend has devastated us and we miss her so much. Although we realize this was a freak accident.
I have recieved many letters from other dane owners and breeders alike that accidents like this have and do happen fairly frequently.
So in Kyra's memory, I ask all of you who read this to please be careful and watchful of your danes so your hearts can be spared of this grief, and your danes can live happy long lives.
This memorial painting was done by Gayle Revill of Thunderfire Great Danes and Art works. Victoria, Australia. To visit Gayles website click on this link.
Many Thanks to Gayle for this beautiful painting.
Kyra was my Foundation in Blue. If not for her there would be no Blue or Black Eastwood Great Danes. She truly inspired me in all I have learned about the breed and for all I have accomplished in our breeding program. Kyra contributed even more to my life.

Eastwood's PreachN To The Choir (Whoopi)
April 9, 2004 - October 31, 2007
We lost Whoopi to Bloat/Torsion. She meant the world to us and we miss her so much. Whoopi had a major FUN personality. Full of life and a true comedian. She never failed to make us laugh everyday with some sort of antic. She was a tall black lovely girl and had so much expression it just melted your heart. You could see the love and excitement flow from her soft eyes.
Whoopi is the only Dane we have lost to Bloat and it is such a heartbreaking experience.
Whoopi is forever in our hearts.

Eastwood's TTYL I'M Bizy V Kohinoor (Bizy)
April 9, 2004 - November 10, 2009
I never imagined that I would lose another Dane to the 'Zoomies' but it has happened. Bizy was out on the morning of November 8th, 09 running very fast in circles around the yard as she did every day a couple of times and slipped on wet grss and flipped herself in a way that caused spinal and severe nerve damage to her left side rear and had no feeling in her hip or leg. We tried with drug therapy for a couple of days to wake the nerves up but it wasn't happening and she began to lose coordination on the right side rear also. We had to let her go.
Bizy was a spirited one and Gary and I loved so much about her.  She produced some beautiful puppies. She was a very important part of my breeding program and will live on through her get in future generations. Bizy stole our hearts from the beginning. She was the smallest puppy in a litter of 10 and had a personality and presense that will never be forgotten.
