Aiden is our Congo African Grey. We got him from Carol Rensel in MT. Washington KY. at 13 weeks of age. www.parrotpad.com She is a fantastic breeder of several different parrots. Aiden spends his days roaming from perch to perch and teasing the Danes! (Check below for updated vocabulary) Aiden enjoys a variety of fresh fruits and veggies along with dried fruits and nuts. We feed Aiden Dr Harveys all natural Perfect Parrot and Exotic Parrot food along with a huge variety of fresh fruits and veggies daily. My husband Gary and I have always liked parrots and after months of research on different types, we decided to search for a breeder and get one and Aiden has truly been a nice addition to our home. Greys have a life span of 50 to 70 years so we look forward to him spending the rest of our lives with us! Greys are considered the Cadilac of parrots with their ability to speak hundreds of words and are able to form sentences on their own. Greys have the mentality of a 4 to 5 year old child. We thought having a Grey (Cadilac of birds) living with Danes (The apollo of Dogs) would be a real nice mix! We love him! He is beautiful and he is very very cool! When Greys are young their eyes are black. You can see in the pictures how they changed from 4 months to 2 years.

"Freebum" is the nick name my husband uses to call our Great Dane Freedom. Aiden likes to call her that also.
Having a Grey around can be VERY loud at times. He loves to do blood curdling screams when I am on the phone or when a favorite show is on TV. These are things you need to know when considering a Grey family member! I spend a lot of time outside on the phone!! They are lots of fun, but lots of tolerance is also needed. Aiden spends a better part of the day talking and making noise. A Grey from a reputable breeder can cost $900.00 to $1200.00. We paid $900.00 for him. Another $450.00 for his cage. About a couple of hundred on toys so far and it cost me around 20 to 30 dollars a month to feed him. Greys also can be very messy He likes to throw food at the Danes! He has quite a bit of dander which is a white powdery substance that can be seen on the walls and wiped from the TV screen daily! The news papers in the bottom of his cage are changed daily and bowls are washed daily. His cage gets a good over all cleaning once a week with vinegar and water. Aiden hates showers as in getting in the shower.. but I spray him with ice water once every week or 2. He loves ice cold water for a bath. Greys usually bond with one person but will get along with others. Before you buy a Grey, you need to do a ton of research and make sure it is the bird for you. There are several good books available on African Greys. Buy them and READ them BEFORE you make your purchase. Find a reputable breeder and as with all pets, the pet store is NOT the place to buy from. Hand raised and hand fed and WEANED birds are what you want. Most repuatable breeders will not let a baby go to a new home before they are fully weaned. Don't worry... You have plenty of time to bond! Like rescues for dogs and cats, there are bird rescues also. You may want to consider an adult parrot that needs a home. Do your homework before you just decide this is a cool bird and run out and buy one! Most Greys will talk, but some never do. PLEASE be commited to your Grey either way. The talking factor should not be the sole basis of your decision to buy an African Grey. They are very loving pets, Very rewarding to have around but as with any living thing you bring into your life, you need to be dedicated to them for Their life.
